POLICE say too many drivers are still ignoring speed cameras. One motorist was caught travelling at more than twice the limit in a 30mph zone.
William Watson, 38, of Carstairs Avenue, drove his Toyota Celica GT at 69mph along Kingsdown Road.
He was fined £250, ordered to pay £35 costs and given six penalty points for the offence, in April.
Another Swindon man, Andrew Styles, 45, was caught doing 99mph on the A419 at Cricklade.
Styles, of Sunnyside Avenue, was fined £200, ordered to pay £35 costs and received five penalty points.
David Frampton, who manages the Wiltshire and Swindon Road Safety Partnership, said: "We catch scores of speeding drivers every day in Wiltshire.
"But, contrary to popular opinion, this gives us no satisfaction. Our target isn't to catch people speeding but to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in road collisions by 40 per cent by 2010.
"We also aim to reduce the numbers of children killed or seriously injured by 50 per cent by the same time.
"The only consolation we can take from the fact these drivers were caught is that they probably won't do it again."
