GAZETTE & HERALD: Residents are trying to get the name of their street in Calne changed back to the original spelling after a council vehicle knocked the old sign off.
Tony Walker, who has lived in the street for 33 years, has applied with the backing of the rest of the residents to have the name changed back to Beversbrook Lane instead of Beaversbrook Lane.
Mr Walker said that sometimes it is also called Beversbrook Road and he would like the situation clarified.
Mr Walker and his wife, Betty, said it was only when the sign was knocked down that they decided to ask for it to be changed.
"We have always known it as Beversbrook without the 'a' but there's been this sign at the top of the lane saying Beaversbrook," said Mr Walker.
"I wrote to a lady from the council offices and said the sign had been knocked over by their vehicle, and we tried to get a new sign."
Mrs Walker said: "All the land round her was called Beversbrook, like the farm down the lane.
"In this book from the 1920s it says Beversbrook, and all the deeds are Beversbrook."
A spokesman from North Wiltshire District Council said it has followed up the name change request and has sent letters to residents seeking their views, with the 28-day objection period nearing its end.
After this a notice explaining the change will be put up on each end of the road and the public will then have 30 days to object before the application is ratified.
