PRODUCERS of an organic takeaway range say the washout summer has hit trade.

Eastbrook Farm, of Bishopstone, launched The Flying Pig an off-shoot to its successful organic business in February.

Using two specially equipped vans, costing a total of £50,000 they have been visiting events across the country, dishing up tasty treats ranging from healthy milkshakes to 100 per cent organic burgers.

But the heavy rain, which led to flooding earlier this week in Cricklade, has not helped boost trade.

Owner Helen Browning, however, is refusing to allow her spirits to be dampened by the wet weather.

She said: "We could not have had a worse summer to launch a business like this, but we are making the most of it.

"We have been encouraged by the response of customers at the various National Trust events we have been to. And we have picked up a lot of knock-on trade."

Mrs Browning hit on the idea for the enterprise 10 years ago when the farm organised barbecues around Wiltshire.

She said: "There was a big demand but we did not have the time to explore the idea.

"Then earlier this year we carried out some research through a trial events.

"We want to get away from the e-numbers but customers want convenience food. This fills the gap.
