ONE of the newest parts of Swindon is hoping to introduce an old tradition in a bid to boost community spirit.
The congregation of St Andrew's Church in North Swindon is holding an old English garden party this Saturday but are desperate for volunteers to help out.
The Rev Ruth Cram, vicar of St Andrew's, said: "Even at this late stage we're still after extra bodies to help us with the serving of cream teas and setting up of stalls.
"If support is here this year, we may be able to get bigger next year.
"Please offer your support and come along for what promises to be a great day."
The fete is set to include bottle and bookstalls, bouncy castles, raffles and tombolas, football shootouts as well as a David Beckham lookalike sponsored headshave for the NSPCC and church funds.
There will also be pony rides, skittles, craft stalls, a toiletries stall as well as a teddy sale.
The fete will run from 2pm until 4pm at the Blunsdon Abbey Grounds behind the Blunsdon Abbey Caravan Park.
There will also be an open air songs of praise taking place on Sunday followed by a picnic.
If you would like to offer your help for the fete, please call 01793 705751.
