STABLES once used by troops of the famous Easy Company during the Second World War are still awaiting shipment to the US.
The six corrugated steel structures, which once stood in the centre of Aldbourne, will be sent to Taccoa in Georgia, to form a lasting memorial to the brave men who died during the Normandy Landings.
The company, which formed part of 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment, was immortalised in the Stephen Spielberg-produced hit TV series Band of Brothers.
Local furniture restorers, Sowerby and Son, carried out the work in the summer.
A US Second World War magazine is spearheading the project and the firm is waiting to receive shipment details.
Tony Blair and other world dignitaries took part in a special memorial in Normandy on June 6 to remember the thousands of allied servicemen who died in the final push for victory.
