GAZETTE & HERALD: THE sleepy village of Sutton Benger will experience an annual knees-up to beat any other village fete on Saturday September 4.

The Sutton Benger Extravaganza started three years ago as a way to raise some funds for its new cricket team and has now exploded into a massive family spectacle.

The event on is hosting a list of local and newly signed bands that will be playing on the same main stage as Elton John did this year in Glastonbury.

Trevor Knowlden, who runs the event, said it is going to be an amazing spectacle: "It's the biggest village fete in the UK.

"It's a complete show. It's entertainment for two-year-olds to 100-year-olds.

"There will be a 30-minute finale with computerised fireworks and music such as Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia and it will have lasers and Bollywood Dancers that are coming in the Thursday before."

The event also has stages for groups displaying Scottish Dancing, Clog Dancing and the Hardenhuish Dance Academy will also be performing.

There is also a small fun fair for small and big kids as well as the three finalists from Wiltshire's Pop Idol.

Mr Knowlden said: "From 2pm to midnight it will be pure entertainment, no gaps in between."

This year money raised will be given to the St. Nicholas Special Needs School in Chippenham.

Mr Knowlden said: "Money is raised for the cricket club as well and that provides coaching for 50 kids every Tuesday night throughout the summer.

"We always give some money to local charities so we can see what the money goes towards."

The event costs £12 for adults, £5 for children and children under 5-years-old gain free entry. Tickets are available from the Chippenham and Malmesbury Tourist Board, the Sutton Benger Post Office, the Bell House in Sutton Benger and The Mermaid pub.
