I am writing to correct the inaccurate and misleading headline 'One dog an hour put down by charity' which appeared in your newspaper on July 22.
Dogs Trust the charity in question has a strict non destruction policy and has done since 1964.
Our stray dog survey merely highlights the huge stray dog problem in the UK and how many thousands of stray dogs are destroyed each year by local authorities not by Dogs Trust.
Dogs Trust is the UK's largest dog welfare charity and never puts a healthy dog to sleep.
We work tirelessly towards the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction.
This is at the heart of our work and to achieve this we choose to lead by example and offer reduced price neutering and microchipping schemes and educate people that dogs are not objects which can be discarded.
Thanks to the support of the public we are able to care for 11,500 stray and abandoned dogs through our network of 15 rehoming centres around the country.
A dog is for life.
