A FRUSTRATED Westbury man is urging fellow residents to join his passive march in support of the town's proposed bypass.
Dorian Jones says the bypass must be built now and hopes tomorrow's march will add weight to his campaign.
He has arranged for supporters to meet at the Warminster Road car park at 10.30am before marching with banners in the area nearby between 11am and noon.
Mr Jones has already recruited more than 30 marchers and believes that number could treble when word spreads further.
He said: "I am a resident on the A350 and for years the traffic volumes have been more numerous causing awful pollution as well as the weight of traffic causing vibration such that walls in my property are cracking.
"We have had debate for years over the bypass for Westbury and the realisation is now if we don't get the eastern route we won't get a bypass at all. Westbury needs a bypass, not in 20 years' time but now.
"This is not a political situation for the east or west route. We want a blessed bypass and that's the length of it.
"I've been handing out flyers over the past month to the apathetic town of Westbury, but I've only been able to get about 30 or 40 people involved.
"Once it's publicised
I'm hopeful we can
get around 100, which will be great."
Last year Wiltshire County Council submitted an £15m bid to the Government for a bypass to the east of Westbury.
Transport minister Tony McNulty visited the area earlier this year and was expected to announce in June whether the Government would fund the scheme.
Two months later, no announcement has been made and councillors may not now hear anything until Christmas. But if the project, and an £8m improvement scheme for 'Death Valley' on the A36 get the green light, the county council says it is ready to press ahead.
Cabinet member for transport Fleur de Rhe-Philipe said: "Despite supportive remarks on both schemes from Mr McNulty during his visit, given current government noises with regard to spending plans (or lack of them), I am working hard to be optimistic.
"However, we have not yet received a 'no' so I am still hopeful."
