How sad it was to read in last week's issue (August 20) that Westbury Town Council objected to the sheltered housing development in Frogmore Road, Westbury, because there was not "one (parking) space per flat".
You only have to look at the other sheltered housing schemes in Westbury to see that parking is not one per flat.
The same developer's scheme in Warminster has 80 flats and 35 parking spaces and the new one in Trowbridge has 58 flats and 21 spaces for cars.
This scheme is as close to the shops as the other two are and even if that were difficult for some, we have a good LINK scheme to take people shopping (but could use more drivers!).
We're very pleased with the way the site has been developed. We had expected it to be housing, but we could have had 100 homes with 150 cars coming onto the road! The council was quite right in objecting to no parking on the old bakery site in Edward Street, but let's get more realistic about car use of people 75 plus!
