AN ACTOR from Hilperton has won his first big break playing a camp, leopard-skin clad hairdresser in a new children's TV series to be screened this autumn.
Stan Jakielski, known as Stan The Man, will appear in ITV series The Giblet Boys, being filmed in Bristol by nationally renowned producers Davina Belling and Clive Parsons the people behind films Scum and Gregory's Girl.
The show, which could air as soon as October, focuses on the adventures and mishaps of three brothers, who cause their parents no end of headaches.
Stan, who filmed his scenes at a Bristol hair salon earlier this month, will play a camp hairdresser decked out in a pink suit with leopard skin lapels.
Stan, who used to work for the Wiltshire Times, was picked for the role after auditions were held in June.
"I thought the costume looked fabulous and the role was very me," he said.
"I think they knew within three seconds I was the person for the part.
"I went in for make-up and the girl had worked with Colin Farrell, Michael Douglas and Michael Jackson before. It was a completely fun day.
"There were lots of people in the shops and bars gawping at what was going on.
"It was a great atmosphere and we were filming for four hours."
A salon close to the city's Colston Hall was taken over for part of the filming, with the rest of the scenes shot in an empty warehouse close to ITV West studios, on the outskirts of Bristol.
Stan said: "This salon had been decked out with feather boas and pink everything. I even had two pink assistants.
"I am looking forward to seeing it on the screen."
Producer Ms Belling, who was behind the popular series The Queen's Nose, said the six-part show could be aired in October.
"We were commissioned by ITV last autumn and they are very excited about the footage they have seen already," she said.
"The Giblet Boys is perhaps best described as Just William in triplicate. It is about three very naughty boys whose enemy number one is mum.
"Stan plays this mad, camp hairdresser who is one of the children's worst nightmares.
"He loved the role and entered into it with great gusto."
Stan has been handed a role in another ITV-commissioned show still in production. Working under the title Julia Roberts Ate My Doughnut, the short film focuses on a businessman who transforms into a drag queen at night.
