Aldbourne have pulled out of the Premier Division of the Wiltshire League after just four games but the club will continue to run a reserve side in Junior Division One, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Pete Orsi who resigned as manager earlier in the week said: "The committee of the club sat down and we decided we would struggle to put two sides out because of a lack of players.

"Three fairly hefty defeats didn't help either and it was decided to go back to basics and try and build again from the reserve side.

"We could have gone on and cancelled games and have been fined 'X' amount of money we couldn't afford.

"It was a hard decision but it had to be faced. I will still be on the committee and help while I can."

Aldbourne are one of the longest serving clubs in the Wiltshire League joining in 1977 a couple of years after the league was formed.

Cricklade Town look to have the hardest fixture in the Premier Division this weekend when they travel to Bradford.

The homeside, last season's highest scorers, had a quiet start netting just one goal in their opening two fixtures. However since then they have found their shooting boots scoring six against Aldbourne last Saturday and another six in midweek at Corsham.

For their part Cricklade have lost just one game from four starts and impressed in their 5-2 two win over Malmesbury Vics in the week.

Manager Graham Jackson has been pleased with his sides start but has said they have conceded needless goals at times.

Their defence will need to be water tight at Bradford and keep a close eye on Russell Francis who scored four in midweek and Tom Pang.

New College have been holding their own with some good performances in their first season in the section and Manager Pete Horwat has been pleased with his young side.

"I think the lads have settled in well they have played some good football at times and they can only improve. We have been two goals up on a couple of occasions and let it slip but apart from that I'm quite pleased."

New College travel to Calne this weekend who will be bubbling with confidence following their 6-2 away win over Westbury in midweek. It was the homesides first defeat following victories in their first three games.

AFC Stratton who were made to fight hard by Chiseldon Castrol in midweek before scoring twice in the last twenty minutes travelled to newcomers Bromham who suffered a 4-0 defeat at Melksham in midweek. Stratton boss Stef Kuczynski has said there are no easy games in the section but will be disappointed if his side doesn't come away with a result.

Purton Reserves have picked up one point from their first four games and face a stern test at Westbury while Chiseldon Castrol yet to get off the mark could gain their first points against Shrewton United Reserves should they show the form they did against Stratton in midweek.

Junior Division One leaders Down Ampney who scored twenty goals in their first three games play Marlborough Town and Junior Two leaders Barron Heating should collect maximum points against Chiseldon Castrol Reserves.

Pinehurst OB thrashed Blunsdon 11-1 last night. Kevin Taylor led the scoring with four and Liam Preedy also hit a hat-trick.

Shane Davis, Danny Hyde, Steve Challinor and Roger Mundy all helped themselves to singles.
