SPECIAL celebrations will be held in Swindon next month during English Heritage's open days when you can see some places normally out of bounds.

These include Lydiard House which will be open both days free of charge but in St Mary's Church next door the St John Triptych will be open a chance to see this work of art depicting the St John family.
Lake engineer Jonathan Hinks and historic landscape architect Simon Bonvoisin will reveal how the lost lake at Lydiard Park will be restored, during tours on the Saturday at 11am and 2pm.And on the Sunday a family treasure hunt between 11am and 4pm will test you with plans, riddles and pictures.

You will be able to discover what lies beneath Holy Rood Church in The Lawns without any earth being disturbed. Survey company Stratascan will demonstrate how geophysics can be used to see archaeological remains below ground.
You can also go back in time with the North Wiltshire Branch of the Young Archaeologists Club as they plot the plan of the church and manor house using photographs and records. These events run both days from 10am to 4pm.
More archaeology can be explored at Groundwell Ridge where you can see some of the findings of this year's dig on the Roman site. Booking is required by calling 01793 414844.
