A SWINDON school can now claim to have the best A-level results in the country, although its achievement will not feature in any official league tables.
Students at Kingsdown School in Stratton St Margaret, for ages 11 to 16, leave after GCSEs and have the chance to study for A-levels elsewhere.
This year, however, Chris Elliott, 16, sat maths A-level and achieved an A grade, with 96 per cent.
David Williams, headteacher, said: "He is an exceptional mathematician and that was recognised by the school and we decided to fast-track him and therefore he did his GCSE and AS level early, and this year his A-level.
"He has done exceptionally well, and strictly speaking we now have the best A-level results in the country."
"Although I'm not very interested in statistics I am very proud of Chris. Although he worked under the tutelage of Bob Eckersley, a lot of the credit goes to Chris himself, as he put a lot of work into this at home as well in the lessons."
Chris, of Stratton St Margaret, said: "I'm not particularly excitable, but I am quite pleased with the result.
"I got 100 per cent in three of the exams, and I think I got quite good marks in the coursework.
"I'd been quite bored in my maths lessons for a couple of years, repeating the same work when I already understood it.
"So I did the GCSE at the beginning of year 10, two years ago, and then I went on and did the A-level.
"I was teaching myself mostly. I just went through the textbooks on my own during my regular maths lessons."
Chris is about to start studying for more A-levels at Cirencester College.
