Ref. 30054-15THE FUTURE of a near-derelict Grade II listed farmhouse could be decided by tomorrow.

Dentist Patrick Holmes wants to restore Groundwell Farm, in Woodcutters Mews, Blunsdon St Andrew, and turn the building into a dental surgery.

The building has been empty for many years and has fallen into disrepair. It has also been broken into several times.

Mr Holmes, of Sevenfields Health Care Ltd dental practice in Penhill, wants to give it a new lease of life.

He first applied for planning permission two years ago, but the bid had to be examined by English Heritage.

Mr Holmes also wants permission to build 16 apartments on the site, in order to finance the dental practice, which would have three surgeries and three consulting rooms. The apartments would be accommodated within four separate blocks.

In addition, the application includes parking for 35 vehicles 20 for residential units and 15 for the dental practice.

The development would see the demolition of the adjoining coach house, also a Grade II listed building.

Blunsdon St Andrew Parish Council has come out in support of the application on the grounds that the proposals would prevent further deterioration and allow use of the building. Planners will meet tomorrow to discuss the scheme.

Coun Justin Tomlinson (Con. Abbey Meads) said: "Some local residents have already come to us with questions, which is why we will be looking into this very carefully.

"We will take particular interest in the potential impact of any new traffic that is brought to this residential area. We do welcome development, but it must fit in with the local area."
