I READ the report about Highworth Junior Football Club having to find nearly £35,000 extra for their new pavilion with disbelief.
I think it is outrageous that they should have to pay for an archaeological dig. What on earth did the archaeologists expect to find? We already know more about the Romans than they knew about themselves.
As Mr Berry says, it has nothing to do with football and if Swindon Council is obliged to protect archaeological remains then they should pay or at least share the cost with English Heritage.
This would be much cheaper than dealing with young lads roaming the streets with nothing to do expect making a nuisance of themselves.
Has anyone stopped to think of the advantage of having such a football club, keeping youngsters off the streets and giving them a healthy outdoor activity in this age when obesity is a major problem with young people?
