THE WOOTTON Bassett branch of the Royal British Legion has applied for a road closure to allow for the dedication the town's new war memorial.
The closure would run from 2.30pm to 3.45pm on October 3 on the High Street from Longleaze to New Road and Station Road from the High Street to the Memorial Hall.
For years, the town's war veterans have had to make do with a makeshift cenotaph on Armistice Day.
The new memorial will be unveiled by North Wiltshire MP James Gray and will mark the loss of some 72 men who never returned from the battlefields of both wars.
A parade, led by a band, will move off from Ridgeway House at around 2.45pm, and then march along the High Street.
The unveiling ceremony and flypast will take place at 3pm, which will be followed by a two-minute silence and then a speech by Mr Gray.
The commemoration day was made possible thanks to a £1,000 donation from RAF Lyneham, which took the total raised to £14,000.
