71951-16FOR a quarter of a century Sheila Smith has risen to the challenge of working in a bakery.

And generations of customers have come to appreciate her easy-going charm and friendliness at Breadlines in Clive Parade, Headlands, Swindon.

Now Sheila, 63, has been given a presentation for her 25 years of hard work.

She says she has loved working in the bakery as a shop assistant.

"It's great seeing the different generations of children from the area and from Headlands School," she said.

"I've really enjoyed my job, particularly the quality control aspect of it we have to make sure everything is up to standard!"

Sheila, who has been married to Brian for 43 years and lives in Lower Stratton, says her favourite cakes are Bakewells and other almond treats.

Bakery director Neil Mulcock, who also runs the Breadlines in Rodbourne Road, the Cakehole in Rodbourne Cheney and Bassett Bakery in Wootton Bassett High Street, said Sheila has been a great asset to the shop.

He said: "She's excellent with people and she is friendly to everyone, whether they are old or young. Sheila knows everyone's name and knows what they like and don't like.

"Nowadays you talk about sending people on customer service courses, but Sheila's never been on one and has never needed to she's got it. We've been very lucky to have her."

And Sheila, who now just works during the busy lunchtime periods, but is always available as cover when needed, says she has no plans of giving up.

She was presented with an ornamental figure, a bouquet of flowers, and vouchers so her and Brian can have a slap-up lunch at Blunsdon House Hotel.
