SIX-YEAR-OLD burglary victim Conner Gleed has conquered his fear of intruders thanks to a generous pensioner.
Crooks left little Conner too scared to sleep in his own bed after they broke into his room and snatched a PlayStation.
After the incident, Conner had to sleep on the sofa, but was kept awake with nightmares.
Following a report in the Advertiser, pensioner Brian Breakspear, 65, replaced Conner's PlayStation with one he had been given.
Now, besides enjoying playing his favourite games, Conner is also sleeping soundly tucked up in his own bed. His mother Carla Doole, 22, believes that Brian's kindness restored her son's faith in people.
"Conner hadn't slept in his bed for more than a week," said Carla, of Kitchener Street, Gorse Hill.
"He would cry and shake with fear if I tried to take him to his room.
"Now, he falls asleep on the sofa then I take him to bed.
"He usually wakes up when I walk up the stairs, but he doesn't mind being put to bed, and stays there all night. I think the burglary knocked his confidence in people.
"Brian's gesture made him realise that not everyone was bad. It was such a lovely thought that someone would go to so much trouble."
Brian, of Deburgh Street, Rodbourne, had been given the games console by his son, but found the games too hard.
Carla was worried that her son would have to start the autumn term at Gorse Hill Infants School enduring sleepness nights. Now, he will turn up on Thursday full of energy.
Intruders broke-in via Conner's bedroom window, and also stole £120 worth of coppers the family had saved to spend on holiday.
Thieves broke in while the family were out on Wednesday, August 25.
Police believe that two teenagers aged between 16 and 17 were responsible.
