Swindon Primary Schools retained the BP Cup in impressive style with an 8-2 victory over Southampton, ending their five-year winless run at Clayfields.

The visitors began brightly with three good opportunities in the opening minutes, but could have gone behind were it not for an excellent save by from Swatridge.

Morse and Wright worked hard in midfield to make chances for French and Chapman.

And when the Southampton defence could only partly clear a Chapman shot, Henshall was able to volley the follow-up shot into the net.

Less than two minutes later, French's powerful header from Jefferies' cross doubled Swindon's advantage.

While Wilkinson, Miles, Fleming and Diss kept Southampton's strikers at bay, the south coast side's midfield struggled to deal with the pace of Henshall and Chapman.

It was no surprise therefore, when the Northview pupil made it 3-0 with his debut goal for the side.

Swindon seemed to relax after this and allowed Southampton back into the game.

The home side were able to put together some neat moves, although their hard work was somewhat dubiously rewarded when Wilkinson was adjudged to have felled an opponent in the area.

The penalty was despatched and the alarm bells started ringing when Southampton grabbed a second.

But quick thinking at a throw-in allowed Henshall in for his second.

Three minutes into the second half, French steered home his second before Jefferies got in on the scoring act.

Jefferies then stroked hom a penalty after Wilkinson had been felled.

And with less than 10 minutes left, he completed a memorable hat-trick when he chipped a sublime shot into the top left corner.
