MOTORCYCLE ace Daryl Bolter is celebrating after landing the British Enduro Championship to seal his status as the country's number one up-and-coming rider, writes Sarah McQuillen.
The 19-year-old star, who combines international competition with holding down a job as a mechanic, beat full-time professionals to land the 125cc title in style - ahead of a field of 300.
It was a victory against the odds for the Durrington rider, who had to miss one round of the British championship when he sustained a broken thumb mid-season.
He travelled to the two-day 'Natterjack' needing to finish second or better to keep his title hopes alive and immediately threw down the gauntlet, storming into a commanding lead and setting stage times, which were to remain unbroken all weekend.
He kept his cool to put in another winning performance on day two to top his class with a comfortable 32-second cushion.
The only rider to outpace the Husqvarna rider was motorcycle legend and former world champion Paul Edmondson, aboard a far more powerful 250cc machine.
Edmondson was the first to congratulate the young pretender on his performance.
Bolter said: "There were four riders in the 125cc class that could quite easily have walked away with the title so I knew I'd have to be on the top of my game.
"It has been a great season for me winning the British Enduro Championship, the welsh two-day enduro, getting a gold medal at my first international six-day championships and placing sixth in the Europeans.
"I want to try and build on it next year and compete in more international events.
"I'm really looking forward to it."
