Tony Blair has proved himself to be a master in the use of the spoken word.
However, his untruths over the cause for going to war against Iraq have left him isolated and distrusted in a way no other 20th century premier has ever been. His belief in his own infallibility will prove to be his downfall and Iraq his nemesis.
It is a lie for Mr Blair to claim intelligence presented to him was incorrect. The truth is that Mr Blair didn't like the intelligence as it didn't square with the actions he had agreed to take with Mr Bush.
Mr Blair asked the British people to wait for the results of the Iraqi Survey Group the report confirms that Iraq did not have any weapons of mass destruction immediately prior to the war.
The war was predicated on the "sure and certain knowledge that Iraq possessed these weapons and would use them".
Mr Blair has now changed his tune and states with absolute certainty that Iraq and the world is a safer place without Saddam Hussein.
Maybe he is right but since when has it been the right of any nation state to supplant the government of another sovereign state?
