I FEEL I have to write this letter as I fear it won't be too long before there will be fatalities on the certain Chippenham streets notorious for being dangerous rat runs.
For too long Palmer Street, Lowden, Ladyfield, Audley and Sheldon Road have suffered the cancer of irate, inconsiderate drivers.
Only the other day, while driving down Sheldon Road (by the Oasis hair studio) another driver couldn't wait merely a few seconds to let me by, behind a parked car, literally missing me by inches.
I had my baby son Joseph with me at the time.
This is not the first time something like this has happened and it certainly won't be the last.
Another sad fact is that many of these perpetrators are 40 plus years of age and they should know a lot better.
Rush hours, especially between 4pm and 8pm are totally nightmarish on these streets with engine revving, risk taking and driving close to 40mph increasingly evident.
Yes, we all want to get home quickly and without hassle after a hard day's work but is it really worth potentially killing a child?
We may point the finger at the council and the Government to do something. However, as individuals we must be more responsible and patient.
Maybe the community should start a slow down campaign similar to what the citizens of Park Lane did nearly 15 years ago.
If this has the potential to save just one life it will be totally worth it.
The sooner we get a grip on this problem the better.
