Three of the Devizes starting line-up reported in injured as a result of the previous day's school matches and two others had been taken ill overnight before this contest on Sunday.
The match was played with uncontested scrums as a result, a huge disappointment for both sides who had been looking forward to a tight forward battle.
The first half was a war of attrition with the under-strength Devizes forwards battling manfully against a powerful and committed Corsham pack. The ability of the Devizes pack to soak up unrelenting Corsham pressure was made the most of by man of the match Harry Williams who countless times from stand off cleaned up and cleared the Devizes line.
After a first half with no score by either side it was with some surprise that only two minutes into the second half from a relatively innocuous position Devizes centre Tim Brain delivered a perfect side step that opened up the otherwise steadfast Corsham defence leaving him a 30 yard sprint to score under the posts. Williams duly converted.
The Corsham reply was immediate and from a series of pick and drives that took them fully 40 yards one of their powerful forwards dived over for an unconverted try.
The impasse was finally broken from an unlikely source when, from a line-out, the Devizes backs simply fed the ball wide. Full back James Dazeley took the pass from the Devizes outside centre and sprinted 40 yards to score. This time the conversion failed leaving Corsham needing only a converted try to save the game.
Once again the home side showed great character and lifted their game with their forwards pounding the Devizes try line where they were camped for over 10 minutes. Following a series of five metre scrums Corsham finally managed to force themselves over but once again the score was near the touchline and the Corsham kicker was unable to level the scores.
