I am amazed at all this controversy over moving the Record Office from Wiltshire's county town. Every other record office is in its county town. Cornwall's is in Truro where people who want to use it expect it to be.
People from outside Wiltshire do use the one in Trowbridge coming up from the south. Why stick it in inaccessible Chippenham?
It is not just those from Cornwall and Devon who will be inconvenienced, what about Dorset and south Somerset? Looking at my rail timetable you can get from Weymouth and Dorchester direct to Trowbridge as well as Yeovil and Frome.
The whole idea seems a nonsense to me. It would not surprise me if it was driven by a councillor who lives in Chippenham. I am amazed the other county councillors let him or her get away with such schemes.
