MATTY Bown has given Westbury United a boost ahead of tomorrow's Screwfix League Division One match at Wellington by committing his future to the club.
The former Paulton Rovers striker has attracted interest from Melksham Town and Devizes Town, but after weeks of thinking it over he has decided to stay where he is.
The approaches came in when Westbury were struggling near the bottom of the table, but after Saturday's Wiltshire Senior Cup win made it three wins on the trot, Bown insisted he was going nowhere.
He said: "Obviously I appreciate clubs showing an interest in me but I am more than happy where I am for the time being.
"We did have a bad start and it could have been tempting to jump ship, but hopefully we have sorted it out now and are on the way back up.
"The win against Saltash the previous week was our best performance of the season and while we didn't play as well against New College the win was still fairly comfortable.
"I think Toby Colbourne going to Corsham has settled a few of the lads down a bit and given them the chance to play in one position."
Westbury were expected to progress into the second round against the youthful and inexperienced Wiltshire League side and they made no mistake.
Steve Seals pounced on a defensive error on 15 minutes to shoot the opener past New College goalkeeper Steve Bizley.
Westbury then created several more chances but were unable to add to the scoreline before half-time.
New College equalised on the hour against the run of play when captain Scott Lane glanced home a header from David Pratt's free kick.
Westbury regained the lead eight minutes later with Lee Carpenter rounding off a flowing move and the game was made safe 10 minutes from time through a Lee Burns bullet header.
Manager Derek Graham was satisfied with his side's performance.
He said: "We didn't play brilliantly but the result never looked in doubt.
"They enjoyed a lot of possession but never really threatened up front.
"We defended well and that is very encouraging for the coming games."
