THERE are fears picturesque Bradford on Avon could be turning into a haven for binge drinkers after police confirmed every arrest last month was alcohol related.
In September 14 people were arrested, 12 men and two women, and in every case alcohol played some part in the arrest.
PC Pete Clarke of Bradford Police said: "In each and every one of these arrests drink has been an aggravating factor to some degree."
Bradford mayor Vicky Landell Mills said the news was "really dire".
"We all enjoy a drink but it is important to remember alcohol is very dangerous," she said.
"I think being drunk links with anti-social behaviour and violence and it is extremely worrying.
"People don't know how to drink in a sensible way. They rush out to get a skinfull but the purpose of drinking shouldn't be to get stone drunk."
Of the 14, three men were arrested for drink-driving.
One offender is accused of smashing into the back of a car while four times over the legal limit and drove off before being arrested in Bath.
Six men were arrested for being drunk and disorderly, for fighting or for breach of the peace.
One woman was arrested for assault. It was her wedding night and she is alleged to have attacked a guest at another wedding being held in the same Bradford hotel.
Two men and one woman were arrested for domestic related offences, such as breach of the peace and breach of bail and one man was arrested for criminal damage.
The youngest person arrested was a 17-year-old teenager and the oldest 42.
Of the 14 people arrested eight have been charged and most of the others are on bail pending further enquiries.
One of the men arrested for being drunk and disorderly has since been arrested twice this month for identical offences on two consecutive days.
PC Clarke said: "The one we nicked for drunk and disorderly was so drunk he couldn't even stand up.
"Each of these people has had an affect on the public or on their personal lives.
"I think certainly a high percentage of these are binge drinkers and this is having an adverse effect on their behaviour and aggravating personal circumstances for these people.
"A lot of them have personal problems. They start drinking and then it all becomes blurred."
So far in October eight arrests have been made, six of which are alcohol related.
Bradford on Avon Town Council is organising a meeting with Sgt Mark Rees of Bradford Police to draw up plans to tackle anti-social behaviour.
