FURTHER to the comments regarding the confusion over Westbury Leigh and Leigh Park Estate (Letters, October 8), the differences between the two are becoming most apparent.
Westbury Leigh was a thriving village with many amenities. The construction of Leigh Park with its new road and the decision to relocate Westbury Leigh School to the area sounded the death-knell for the village.
Estate agents are already advertising it as a hamlet. Firstly, the shop was forced to close and now the post office. I read (also in Wiltshire Times, October 8) civic leaders are calling for a new post office in Leigh Park.
Let us hope Leigh Park local centre's proposed 'halls for community use and worship' do not have a detrimental affect on the existing community hall/church at Westbury Leigh with its excellent facilities (converted a few years ago after fundraising by villagers).
It is not progress to create a new community by damaging an existing one.
I hope Westbury Leigh survives; at least we are left with the people and a wonderful community spirit much in evidence at Saturday's village supper.
Ideally, both neighbourhoods would thrive and share facilities in the years to come. We will have to wait and see.
