Ref. 25263-25AID worker Brian Barber, is calling for security to be beefed up in war-torn Liberia.
Mr Barber, of Lydiard Millicent, has been in the African state since spring 2003 helping to install radio stations with the Glasgow-based charity, Mercy Corps.
Although fighting has become less intensive in recent months, Mr Barber says ex-combatants fuelled by drugs - are now hampering relief efforts.
He told the Advertiser: "The only way for these people to get their money for drugs is through crime.
"The backlash happened recently when market traders and other citizens hunted down the alleged criminals and beat them. In some cases they have even burnt down their ghettos and killed them."
