IT is good to see Swindon Council no longer bars people over 70 from becoming crossing patrols outside schools (EA October 12).
In a recent poll for Age Concern most people agreed retirement ages must go and, similarly, age discrimination in recruitment must go too.
While the law will ban age discrimination in employment in 14 months time, there's still too much of it around.
We regularly hear of examples like the handyperson told by a local social housing provider they won't even interview because he's over 65.
We've been gathering examples of discrimination in other areas of life too like the car insurance company that put the price up when someone left work.
Our booklet "Ageism Exists Have You Seen The Signs" is available free from Age Concern Swindon, 14 Milton Road SN1 5JE.
It contains a survey we want people to fill in to help us find more examples of discrimination then we can combat this unfairness.
