RETAILERS in Wiltshire have been urged to carry out security checks on credit card orders to avoid falling victim to a new scam.
Police say traders in the county have already been tricked by the fraudsters, who order goods on the telephone.
A deposit is put down and a delivery address given. But when the goods are in transit, the courier is given another address, often a derelict house.
Police say the goods are then sold on, usually from the back of a van.
A police spokesman urged retailers to carry out the necessary security checks.
