A 90th-minute wonder strike from Chris Copp secured a valuable three points for Supermarine in a feisty encounter at Corby that saw the home side finish with 10 men, writes LEIGH MOORE.

Marine were without Gloucester-based pairing Steve Jenkins and Dave Hunt for the trip to Northamptonshire but were strengthened by the new signing of Nathan Edwards from Cirencester who also bagged a goal on his debut.

In a spirited first half Marine had the better of the running. Steve Bennet was first to go close with a half volley from an Edwards cross. Steve Davies also threatened to open the scoring when he met Copp's corner with a header that narrowly missed the target.

Unfortunately the game took a nasty turn on 26 minutes, after letting a number of suspect tackles go, referee Mr Barratt had to deal with a situation that had been simmering since that start of the game.

Marine captain Davies put in a telling tackle on Corby's lively forward Michael Sneddon, Corby's Chris Goodman then reacted to the challenge by headbutting Davies. Once the fracas had been defused Davies received a generous yellow for his part in the fray whilst Goodman was given his marching orders for his petulant reaction.

Now down to 10 men, Corby reacted well by taking the lead against the run of play on 35 minutes. After a defensive slip, Sneddon was allowed through to apply a cute lob, to break the deadlock.

Despite going a goal down Marine looked the better of the two sides and saw another two chances from Bennet and Copp go begging before the break.

Mark Collier's men never gave up and if not for the upright would have netted the equaliser on the hour mark, Lee Allen's long range strike smashed the inside of the post but bounced away to safety.

The Wiltshire side bounced back and on 80 minutes they dug out a well-deserved equaliser. Copp supplied the pin-point cross and Edwards planted a strong header past Richard Lavin.

Despite the ecstasy of grabbing a late equaliser Marine had not yet finished, but when they did they finished in style. A foul on second half substitute Liam Byfield set up a free kick 35 yards from goal, the quickly taken set piece was sent side ways to Copp who smashed the ball home, much to the delight of Collier and the travelling supporters.
