PARENTS in Swindon are being warned to be on the lookout for mobile phone offers which have hidden extras.
One Swindon mum, who did not wish to be named, said she was shocked to find her 11-year-old son had spent more than £10 in a month on ring tones. He was adamant that he had only bought one but didn't notice the small print on an advert which said more would be sent to his phone at a price. Now his mum wants companies to be more upfront with their special offers.
Although the ploy is not illegal, other mobile phone users in Swindon have been the victims of scams. Police have put out warnings to watch for con merchants using premium-rate phone numbers to fleece them of hundreds of pounds.
