SEVEN new magistrates will be sworn in tomorrow at Swindon Crown Court.
But Swindon Magistrates' Court is still calling for more people to take up the unpaid role.
Since a story appeared in the Adver last month calling for volunteers to take up the post, more than 30 people have come forward. Any that are chosen will be sworn in as magistrates next year.
Magistrates deal with more than 95 per cent of criminal matters that come to court as well civil cases in the county courts and family matters such as child custody.
Magistrates must devote between 15 to 20 days a year to their role. Expenses are met otherwise the role is voluntary.
This year's intake of magistrates will be sworn in by Judge John McNaught at the court at 9.30am.
