WITH reference to the letter published in the Adver on October 14 (Unwed mums should pay up), I find the writer offensive how dare they say we're all the same, I don't see myself as a scrounger.
Before I met my ex-partner I used to work full time, I was with a company for nine years, I also had a part-time job cleaning for four years. Then I fell pregnant, unplanned but happy. I found myself in a violent relationship, had him arrested etc.
My son and I had nowhere to go, Swindon Council helped me and found me and my son a place to live.
Not being able to work I have to rely on benefits, temporary housing is no picnic for any single mother, it's hard, far from ideal!
I did not ask or want to be put in this situation, ask any single mum I bet they have a story to tell. We're not scroungers, just trying to do the best for our children.
