A FLEET of Mercedes cars were given a police escort en route to a new dealership.
Mercedes Benz of Swindon has moved from the current base on the Elgin Trading Estate to new purpose-built headquarters just off Drakes Way and opened for the first time yesterday.
Because the cars on display are unregistered, they needed police accompaniment while they were transferred from the old to the new site.
Staff say they are over the moon about the hi-tech £7m showroom and garages.
Marketing co-ordinator Shelley Pritchard said: "The new site is much bigger than where we were before, and is top notch. There are US-style workshops with ten bays and a lot of room to work in."
Mercedes Benz in Swindon employs 59 people and sells about 20 cars a week. It covers north Wiltshire and parts of south Gloucestershire.
