Ref. 72712-187A SUPERMARKET chain is to ban the sale of eggs to young people this Halloween.
The move strengthens the Evening Advertiser's poster campaign calling on young people to show more consideration.
Asda Walmart, which has a store on the Orbital Shopping Park, imposed the ban to stop them being used for trick or treating.
Events coordinator Vicky Smedley, said stores have a responsibility to communities.
She said: "It's clear that egg throwing can be a real problem around Halloween. That's why we imposed the ban on sales of eggs to under-16s.
"They can be very dangerous if misused."
Other supermarkets have told their staff to be on the alert for groups of youths this Halloween.
Deborah Watson, spokeswoman for Tesco, which has a store in Octotal Way, said: "If there is any suggestion that eggs will be used to cause havoc, staff shouldn't sell them."
Alvina Kumar, Swindon police spokeswoman, said: "Of course we want people to enjoy the celebrations but our main concern is safety. By acting responsibly and taking simple precautions, we can all enjoy a happy and safe Halloween."
