Sarah Webster, who cheated death after falling 30ft from a hotel balcony in Turkey, is back on her feet.

Just three weeks after the accident in the resort of Marmaris, the 18-year-old from Cricklade is already taking her first steps to recovery.

So determined is Sarah to get back on her beloved pony, Izzey, she has left her bed at Great Western Hospital to walk a few steps, aided by staff.

Sarah, who broke both legs and wrists in the fall, is undergoing daily physiotherapy sessions to keep her dream of representing Britain in the 2012 Olympics alive.

Yesterday doctors were forced to operate on her repaired wrists after X-rays showed they were not healing properly.

Her other injuries including a fractured skull and cheekbone are thought to be healing well.

Sarah was still recovering from the operation last night, but her dad, Scott, said she is in high spirits.

"She can now just about put one foot in front of another," said the warehouse manager.

"Sarah seems a lot happier now she's back in Swindon, although she's been moaning a bit, because she's so bored."

Her sister Harriet Gray, of Highworth, said the teenager's pony is giving her the focus and determination she so desperately needs.

"Considering her injuries, she is certainly making a remarkable recovery," said Mrs Gray.

"As soon as she started the physiotherapy she told staff that she had to get back on her feet so she could ride Izzey."

The pony is currently being looked after by friends at stables in Highworth.
