DEVIZES bowed out of the Powergen Intermediate Cup with a 27-7 loss at Henley Wanderers but there were plenty of positives for the Wiltshire side's future prospects.

Classy full back Sam Taylor scored the opener for Henley, but it was a bad start to the second period that was to cost the Saddlebacks.

The defence went to pieces temporarily and Henley ran in two tries through winger Kaz Mslohi and No 8 Will Richards, both converted by scrum-half Chris Ward, who also nudged over a penalty.

Despite their problems in the scrum, Devizes' Mike Walsh and Stuart Walmsley were making up for it at the lineout and they gradually fought back.

Henley scored against the run of play through right winger Luke Rosser, but Devizes rolled over for their consolation score a try to Tim Alchin, converted by Tom Collins.

n Skipper Andy Webb led a revamped Devizes 2nd to a hard-earned 22-3 triumph over Andover.

Andover kicked an early penalty to seize the lead, but Webb levelled matters with his own kick before a quick passing move from the base of the scrum allowed Matt Radbourne to score in the corner.

Turning around 8-2 up, Devizes centre Steve Reynolds latched onto a dropped Andover ball on the half way line and hoofed it on twice to win the race for a touchdown.

Webb's conversion put Devizes 15-3 clear and victory was complete when Webb converted a try by the hooker Bouncer.

n SWINDON College Old Boys 2nd bowed out of the Dorset & Wilts 2nd XV Cup despite leading 10-0 at half-time.

A try from centre Tony Brown, plus a conversion and penalty from fly-half Andy Smith put College in control at the break.

However, Bradford went nto a second round clash against Chippenham, captain Doug Robinson scoring twice, prop Marcus Hamblin and Matt Andrews touching down.

Phil Robinson added three conversions.

n With an ever-increasing injury list, Chippenham combined their second and third team players against neighbours Corsham and triumphed 20-13.

Corsham seized an early lead through two penalties, but Chippenham fly-half Ian Bannister charged down and scored a try to cut the gap to a point.

Strong runs from Darren McMillan and Chris Cook had Chippenham on the front foot again and Dan Shuker's quick-thinking from a penalty gave them a 10-6 half-time lead.

Bannister beat the defence to score his second and Fraser McNaught charged across before Corsham scored a late consolation.
