Mark Thirkettle, 31, accused of breaking into an old woman's house in the middle of the night has been remanded in custody.
He is said to have broken into the property in Walcot in the early hours of October 12.
Michael Butt, prosecuting, told a judge at Swindon Crown Court that the 86-year-old victim disturbed the burglar during the raid on her home in Woodside Avenue, Walcot, and he made off with champagne, wine, lager, Bailey's liqueur, cash, a handbag and the victim's pension book.
Thirkettle, of Axbridge Close, Park North, is also accused of assaulting a police officer with intent to resist arrest.
No charges were formally put to him during the hearing and he was remanded in custody.
