CONTROVERSIAL plans to open a Chinese takeaway in Porton have been given the green light.
Despite receiving 17 letters of objection from members of the public, and contrary to the planning officer's recommendation, district councillors voted overwhelmingly in favour of the application at a meeting last week.
However, the opening times were restricted and the takeaway will only be allowed to operate between 12 and 2pm, and 5 and 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and to 8.30pm on Sundays.
The windows and doors must also remain closed during opening times and proper extraction equipment must be installed, to ensure neighbouring properties are not affected by fumes, odours and noise.
