THE proposed Stonehenge visitor centre has been sited in the wrong place - it will be too far from the monument but should be further from the houses in Countess Road so that the land trains do not disturb local residents.
This was just one of many concerns expressed by Amesbury town councillors at a special meeting held recently, to discuss the planning application regarding the visitor centre.
They were also worried the multi-million-pound scheme would worsen congestion around the A303/A345 junction and in Amesbury itself.
In particular, they want a new path constructed along the A345 from the Durrington roundabout to the visitor centre.
They also said consideration should be given to the provision of a pedestrian path directly from the centre to Lords Walk, via the existing subway under the A303, and a new river crossing.
Their concerns will be passed on to the planning department at Salisbury district council, before the application goes before the council's northern area committee.
