A Trowbridge man has set up a business to exterminate pests.

David Seaman, 36, of Gloucester Road, has worked for eight years for national company Pest Control Techniques.

Now he has set up Armour Pest Protection, and will tackle rats, mice, squirrels, fleas, cockroaches, bed bugs and pigeons.

He said: "I would rather work for myself. I know I'm good at my job. I have lots of experience and I know the industry inside out.

"I used to work in London, which taught me a lot about pest problems."

As well as pest control Mr Seaman is offering a consultation service to customers to help prevent infestations.

"For the cost of a little bit of proofing material you can prevent any problems happening in the first place," he said.

He said Trowbridge's biggest problem centres on its pigeon population.

"Most people don't realise pigeons carry more diseases than almost any other pests, including fleas, pigs and rats," he said.

Most pests are trapped or killed using chemicals but Mr Seaman said he only uses products which pose no harm to wildlife or pets.

He said it is illegal to release a pest that has been trapped back into the wild.

"A grey squirrel is officially a pest species, which means if you trap it you have to kill it," he said.
