Governors, councillors and children are working together to make school meals more healthy.

Children at Sherston Primary School are being asked in a survey what they think of school meals.

And members of the school council, which represents pupils, are being asked for their ideas on how to improve the service provided by the catering firm Sodexho.

The initiative came about after parish councillor John Thomson became aware of the low take-up of meals at the school, where his daughter is a pupil.

He said: "I was concerned about the take-up and quality of meals. We had a meeting with children and they did a survey about what their concerns are."

Coun Thomson, who is also a school governor, said the whole school was involved in the project.

"This is going from the youngest child right through to parents and governors and up to county," he said.

A spokesman for Wiltshire County Council said: "Sodexho is looking to work with schools to increase the uptake of school meals throughout the county. A number of pilot schools have been chosen and Sherston Primary School is one of those. Parents and children will be asked about what they think of the meals they are currently being served and what they would like from meals in future. Sodexho will then look at the results with a view to changing its service."
