Stingrays Swimming Club Masters. 21/10.04.SALISBURY Stingrays Swimming Club's Masters have been crowned 2004 county champions.
It is an overdue honour for the senior swimmers, who were just pipped to the title last year.
In the final, held at their home pool, Five Rivers, the Salisbury team beat 13 clubs across Wiltshire to clinch the cup.
They notched up an impressive medal haul of 24 gold, 21 silver and 14 bronze and saw off competitors from large clubs based in Chippenham, Swindon and Marlborough.
The team's success was the culmination of a great season for the Masters, which has seen them send representatives to major events including the Western Counties Championships and the Great Britain Masters Long Course Championships.
As a result, the club can boast three national title holders and six western champions among its ranks.
Stuart Notman broke the national 200 metres masters record, while Nell Walker was awarded the Walrus Cup for winning more competition points over the course of the year than any other swimmer in the county.
Meanwhile the Salisbury Stingrays pulled off a convincing win in a friendly gala in Midsomer Norton.
Young swimmers were the stars of the show, winning both boys and girls medley relays.
