SALISBURY City are just 90 minutes away from reaching the First Round proper of the FA Cup for the second year running after a stunning victory at Weston Super Mare set up an all Ryman League Premier Division clash with Slough Town, writes Mike Turner.

The Fourth Qualifying Round contest on Sunday, October 31 is probably not the draw City would have wanted, but as results in the restructured division have proved already this season and as the magic of the famous old competition continues to prove, anything is possible.

Craig Davis (2) and Robbie Matthews were on target as Whites turned in a stylish display against the Conference South outfit.

Saturday's victory added £5,000 to the club's coffers from the FA's prize fund and with £10,000 up for grabs in the next round, no one is more aware of the significance of a return to the First Round proper than director Neville Beal.

"No club at this level of football expects to make a profit, so the proceeds of a cup run certainly help reduce the losses."

Beal, delighted at the team's display on Saturday, said he didn't mind who City faced in the next stage of the competition.

"If they play like they did against Weston they'll be a match for virtually anybody. Whether it's because of what they achieved last year, it's obvious the cup sparks them."

Acting first team boss Barry Blankley, agreed: "After the Weston game I didn't mind who we met next or where we played. The lads showed a great attitude from the start and answered all the questions asked of them after the defeat against Northwood."

City will be looking to repeat their recent cup form in the league when they entertain Billericay Town on Saturday.

Adam Wallace and Steve Strong will both be in the squad after returning from suspension in midweek.
