Pewsey's seventh defeat in row kept them firmly planted to the bottom of the Hellenic League.

A goal in each half gave Fairford the points as Pewsey failed to create many chances up front.

A frustrated Pewsey manager Steve Wootton thinks that some of his players are finding the Hellinic league difficult. He said: "This is a strong league and some of my players are struggling. But we have to keep trying. We are showing small signs of improvement."

"It is frustrating because we are not creating enough chances. We are trying but it is just not happening for us."

Pewsey did create the first clear-cut chance of the game on five minutes. Keeper Lee Wilson punted the ball up front to striker Craig Wall. He was left in a one-on-one with the keeper, but the visiting shot stopper pulled off a fine diving save to keep the scores level.

Two minutes later Fairford were in front when their striker found himself inside the box and thumped the ball into the corner of the net.

Pewsey were unlucky not to get back on level terms when Ritchie over-hit a pass to Wall, and nearly caught out Fairford's keeper James Price, who had already committed to go the other way.

Pewsey started the second half with a little more determination and with-in two minutes Micky Martin put a good through ball out to Wall on the left side, but the striker shot just wide of the far post.

There was more poor Pewsey defending on the 52nd minute, when between them defender Chris Oram and midfielder Nick Dodd, let the ball go to John Devoille to chip in over Wilson.

Pewsey deserved a consolation on 70 minutes when Martin won the ball on the right side, but his shot was turned away for a corner.
