FA Vase - The first round of the FA Vase kicks off on Saturday with two local teams bidding to put a run together.

Corsham start their campaign with an away tie to fellow Screwfix Premier Division side Backwell and Devizes Town travel to Willand Rovers.

The FA Vase was create in 1974 and is an opportunity for non-league sides to compete at a national level.

Corsham manager Colin Bush is looking forward to the tournament. He said: "This is our competition at our standard and we will be looking to put a good run together. This is a competition that I think we can do well in."

Bush knows that a tough task lies ahead of him if he his side is to progress into the next round. He said: "Backwell are an indifferent side and it will be a tough task."

The manager thinks the game has been made more difficult for him by the fact he will be missing four key players. He said: "Scott Lye and Jamie lyons will be missing because they are on Wiltshire County duty. Frank Coleman is still recovering from a mouth injury and will not be travelling with us and Toby Colbourne is cup tied."

Corsham qualified for the tournament by beating Wadebridge away 2-0 in the first preliminary round and then cruising to a 4-0 win at home over neighbours Calne.

Devizes manager Mark Godley also hopes his side can progress. He said: "We have a very tough game against Willand Rovers."

Willand are in the league below Devizes but are currently fifth in the Screwfix First Division.

Devizes had a bye into the second preliminary round of the Vase and beat Newquay away at the last minute in the second round.

Keeper Jez Hare will miss the game because he is being called up to the Wiltshire squad. Apart from that Godley will have a full strength side to chose from.

Wessex league side Winchester City are the current holders of The FA Vase following their 2-0 victory against Suffolk's AFC Sudbury at Birmingham City's St Andrew's ground.
