Screwfix Premier Division - Bridgewater manager Trevor Senior heaped praise on Devizes after a convincing win on Saturday.

Senior congratulated Devizes boss Mark Godley and him on a job well done after goals from defender Brian Kayll and strikers David Lloyd and Simon Price gave the home team the three points.

Godley said: "Trevor came up to me and we discussed the game. He was very complimentary of my team's performance.

"It feels great to have the respect of another manager."

The manager was delighted with the win. He said: "We were tight at the back for most of the game.

"We again managed to avoid our customary bad start and were an efficient unit throughout."

The teams fought a hard midfield battle for the first 30 minutes as neither side managed to create any clear-cut chances.

That was until the half hour mark when left winger Scott Sartin switched the ball from the left flank to the right into the path of right-winger Nick Mooney.

He ran at the advancing goalkeeper and unselfishly chipped the ball to Lloyd who nodded the ball into the empty net.

Bridgwater did not seem to press on much for the rest of the half and could only muster a few long-range efforts that went nowhere near the Devizes goal.

Ten minutes into the second period Devizes were awarded a free kick 25 yards out.

Quick-thinking Kayll was way ahead of the visitors and, after taking a quick look at the goal, powered the ball past the keeper before he had a chance to position himself.

Devizes were three up on 75 minutes when Price typified Devizes' work rate. As the ball was passed back to the visiting goalkeeper, he stormed upfield to chase the ball down.

He and the keeper arrived at the ball at the same time but it was Price who won the 50-50 challenge and came away to drill the ball into the empty net.

Substitute Paul Garbutt came close five minutes later with his first touch. He was played through wit just the keeper to beat but was denied by an excellent save.

Midfielder Brad Newman almost made it four when he drove a thunderbolt of a strike towards the goal from 30 yards out. The keeper again pulled off a fine save to tip the ball wide.

Devizes, who had defended so well throughout the match, let their guard down for a sloppy consolation goal in the dying seconds of the game.

The ball was crossed in from a corner and their striker, who was left in yards of space in the centre of the box, jumped unchallenged to head the ball in.

The manager thought his team deserved the three points and praised new defender Graham Ford who signed late on Friday from Calne.

He said: "We worked hard for this victory. Graham had a fantastic debut. He would not have played if it was not for Kelvin Highmore who kindly let him play for us before the regulation seven days notice that we wanted him were up."
