A DEVIZES GP surgery which had experienced problems securing a flu vaccine has now received it.
Lansdowne Surgery in Waiblingen Way, Devizes, buys its vaccines from two different suppliers but hit problems when one of them, Chiron, had its manufacturing licence suspended by the Government.
The surgery was forced to cancel its planned flu vaccination clinic for this Saturday (October 23) because it ran out of vaccine.
It has now received supplies from the Department of Health and has organised a new drop in clinic for Saturday, October 30 from 9am to 11.30am.
The surgery held its first drop in vaccination clinic on October 9 and more than 200 patients received the vaccine.
Patients can also be vaccinated during surgery time and about 500 patients had been vaccinated using the first supply of vaccine, leaving 600 patients waiting for their vaccines.
Jill Cross, the practice manager, said: "We had enough vaccine from our first supplier to see us through our first drop in clinic.
"When our other supplier didn't get its licence we tried every other supplier but they were several million doses down. They said they would be getting more supplies but they couldn't be sure when or how much.
"We had provisionally booked for more supplies but luckily we managed to get supplies of vaccine from the Department of Health on Tuesday. The Department of Health kept a contingency reserve of vaccine."
Mrs Cross said the delay had not adversely affected patients.
No other local surgeries have reported shortages of the vaccine.
