POLICE believe a man who gained admission to a pensioner's home by saying his car had broken down was looking to see what he could steal from the bungalow.
An 80-year-old man who lives alone in the Fairfield area in Upavon answered his door around 12.30pm on Saturday, said PC John Fairbrain, to a man who said his car had broken down.
While the pensioner went to look for a starting device, the caller is believed to have searched the bungalow although nothing was missing. The caller borrowed the £60 engine starting device but failed to return it.
The caller was described as a white male, aged 30-40, thick-set, wearing a black or dark blue baseball cap and a dark blue waist-length jacket.
Anyone who saw a man fitting that description, or saw a man carrying the device which looks similar to a battery, is asked to contact PC Chris Meade at Pewsey police station (01672) 562222.
